Gestational diabetes influences retinal Muller cells in rat's offspring
Objective(s): The Muller cell is the principal glial cell of the vertebrate retina. The expression of Glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) in the Muller cells was used as a cellular marker for retinal damage. This study was done to evaluate the effect of gestational diabetes on retinal Muller cells in rat's offspring. Materials and Methods: In this experimental study, 12 Wistar rat dams were ...
متن کاملMorphology of retinal photoreceptor layer in continuous light-exposed and dark-adapted male cats
The morphology of retinal photoreceptor layer was studied in continuous light-exposed and dark-adapteddomestic male cats (Felis catus). The eyes of 12 healthy adult cats (4 in continuous light-exposed group, 4 in continuous dark-adapted group, and 4 in control group) were routinely fixed and studied by electron microscope. Results showed that the general structure of photoreceptor layer in this...
متن کاملUsing Surgical Microscope for Sclera Buckling and Transscleral Cryopexy: An Alternative Procedure of Treatment for Rhegmatogenous Retinal Detachment
Purpose. To observe the long-term effectiveness of scleral buckling and transscleral cryopexy conducted under a surgical microscope in the treatment of uncomplicated rhegmatogenous retinal detachment. Methods. This was a retrospective analysis in a total of 227 consecutive patients (244 eyes) with uncomplicated rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (proliferative vitreoretinopathy ≤ C2). All patien...
متن کاملOptical Coherence Tomography for Retinal Surgery: Perioperative Analysis to Real-Time Four-Dimensional Image-Guided Surgery
Magnification of the surgical field using the operating microscope facilitated profound innovations in retinal surgery in the 1970s, such as pars plana vitrectomy. Although surgical instrumentation and illumination techniques are continually developing, the operating microscope for vitreoretinal procedures has remained essentially unchanged and currently limits the surgeon's depth perception an...
متن کاملProgressive External Ophthalmoplegia (peo): Presentation of a Mitochondrial Myopathy Accompanied by Electron Microscope
Kearns-Sayre syndrome is a mitochondrial disease, presenting findings before the age of 20 and characterized by chronic progressive external ophthalmoplegia and pigmentary retinal degeneration. It affects many organs, resulting in a very wide spectrum of complications. In this work, a 24-year-old female, whose complaints first started at the age of 12, showing progressing external ophthalmopleg...
متن کاملAnalysis of the chicken retina with an adaptive optics multiphoton microscope
The structure and organization of the chicken retina has been investigated with an adaptive optics multiphoton imaging microscope in a backward configuration. Non-stained flat-mounted retinal tissues were imaged at different depths, from the retinal nerve fiber layer to the outer segment, by detecting the intrinsic nonlinear fluorescent signal. From the stacks of images corresponding to the dif...
